Aside from the need for beach, summer stimulates my favorite sense: taste! Colorful, sweet, quenching organic summer fruit beckons, and I run, anxious for that unforgettable first juicy bite of the true essence of summer. In addition to the amazing diverse taste explosions, summer fruit contains antioxidants, vitamins, minerals salts, water and is practically fat free. Each fruit has specific properties to help our bodies thrive.

During the summer, oils, sunscreens, self-tanners and similar products are the most used products for tanning, but few know that even in fruit very often there are natural elements that favor a perfect tan. Vitamin A is useful in skincare and in the development of a perfect tan as  this vitamin promotes the production of melanin, the pigment that gives color to our skin. Carrots with 1200 mg of Vitamin A are the top producer in this category, but simply eating fruit can protect your body in more ways than one.

Strawberries

Strawberries are rich in vitamin C which, besides favoring the absorption of iron, facilitates the production of collagen, a protein that prevents wrinkles and strengthens the capillaries reducing water retention and cellulite. Strawberries also contain folic acid and promote digestion.

Watermelon

Made up of 90% water, watermelon quenches and detoxifies and is very useful to counteract the sense of exhaustion. An effective diuretic due to the presence of potassium, it is an excellent aid to combat water retention and cellulite and to regulate blood pressure. Watermelon is highly recommended in diets because it provides a strong sense of satiety.

Peaches

Rich in water and fiber, low in calories and fat-free, peaches are often included in low-calorie diets for their ability to satiate. Peaches possess antioxidant properties, are mildly laxative thanks to pectin, and even stimulate the metabolism. Eating one peach a day means providing the body with 15% of the daily requirement of vitamin C and beta-carotene, essential for bone fortification.

Cherries

Cherries have purifying, diuretic and laxative functions. They are rich in flavonoids that fight free radicals, favoring skin elasticity. Cherries are able to regulate blood sugar by increasing the production of insulin and also promote sleep, through the production of melatonin.

Blueberries

Rich in fiber, vitamins and antioxidants that protect us from free radicals and protect the skin from UV rays, blueberries are excellent for fighting urinary infections.

Raspberries

Known for their anti-inflammatory properties regarding the respiratory system, raspberries also have diuretic, purifying and refreshing properties. They contribute to the strengthening of the immune system.

Apricots

Given the presence of vitamin A and vitamin C, apricots have antioxidant power, keep the skin elastic, and promote efficient eyesight, healthy gums, and beautiful hair. Eating apricots will strengthen the entire immune system, counteracting the action of free radicals. Apricots are particularly indicated for those with anemia problems.

Try freezing fresh fruit!

Prepare your favorite summer fruits just as you would if you were going to eat them immediately — cut strawberries in half, remove the pits from apricots and peaches, and chop them into small bite-sized pieces. Blueberries and other small fruits can be left whole. Then freeze all the fruits in a single layer on a baking sheet. The small individual pieces freeze solid and can easily be transferred into a ziploc freezer bag for longer storage. Removing as much air as possible from the bag or container will also help protect the fruit from freezer burn. Instead of ice-cream, frozen fruit represents a healthier and oftentimes tastier option!
